背鰭 (合計): 9-10; 臀鰭: 13 - 14; 脊つい: 30. Distinguished from all congeners by the following unique color patterns: a broad subbasal red stripe on the dorsal fin in males; ventral portion of the head with a black reticulate pattern in females; caudal fin orange on the dorsal and ventral portions, yellow on the middle in females (Ref. 75134).
Inhabits ponds with clear water, about 1.5 m deep, connected to shallow creeks of about 0.05 m deep (Ref. 75134). Adults stay close to the surface of the ponds, near emerging aquatic plants while a few juveniles occur in shallow creek (Ref. 75134).
