Etymology: Pseudocrossocheilus: Greek, pseudes = false + Greek, krossoi = tassel + Greek, cheilos = lip;  nigrovittatus: From the Latin Nigro meaning black and vittata meaning longitudinal stripe, in reference to the longitudinal stripe on the side of the body of this species (Ref. 50421).

Wide (3 rows of scales) black longitudinal stripe along the lateral line which is complete; transverse oblique black stripe on the dorsal fin; many cloudy black blotches on dorsum and sides; ventral fin extending over anus and almost reaching anal fin base; 13 predorsal scales regularly arranged; caudal peduncle deep (14.7%-15.5% of SL); shallow transverse groove between calvaria and snout tip (Ref. 50421).
