Dorsale stekels (totaal): 17; Dorsale zachte stralen (totaal): 7-8; Anale stekels 3; Anale zachte stralen: 8; Wervels: 26. Distinguished from all other cichlids by its color pattern and its short, low vertical fins. Presence of a series of 8 dark vertical markings, the anteriormost through the eye, the fourth from anteriormost bearing a large midlateral blotch; the fins are immaculate (Ref. 26742).
