Etymology: Bodianus: Bodianus after Bodiano or Pudiano, from the Portuguese pudor, meaning modesty (Jordan & Evermann, 1896).;  pulchellus: Name pulchellus, derived from a Latin diminutive meaning 'pretty'; in reference to the attractive coloration of this species (Ref. 75973).
