Found in coastal waters between Quilon in Kerala and Ratnagiri in Maharashtra (Ref. 45255). Produces more than two-thirds of the total world catch, mainly from the south-west coast (Ref. 9987). Found in Godavari estuary (Ref. 51036). Largest caught specimen from off Malpe 27.2 in TL (22.5 SL; 24.0 FL) and 159 g; (Ref. 111606). Also Ref. 188.
