Type locality, Gulf of Carpentaria, northwestern Queensland, QM I.28800 (holotype of Soleichthys maculosus, 7.39 cm SL). Known from Off tropical
northern Australia (Fig. 3) from north of Nickol Bay, Western Australia (20°01' S, 116°57'E) and northeast of Port Hedland (19°29' S, 118°52' E), including the Gulf of Carpentaria, northwestern Queensland (12°-13°S, 141°E) to east of Cairns, northeast Queensland (16°55' S, 145°46' E), 37-63 m depth.
