Known from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Orissa and Tamil Nadu (Ref. 41236). Inadvertently introduced in Peninsular river systems (Ref. 41236). Transplanted to south India in Cauvery & Vaigai rivers (Ref. 43640). Now found in Ganga and Cauvery river systems (Ref. 45255) and Chilka Lake (Ref. 29108) as well as the central and north Western Ghats (Ref. 92228).
Status of threat: Vulnerable in Western Ghats (Ref. 50614).
