पृष्ठीय रीढ़ (सम्पूर्ण): 11; पृष्ठीय सौफट रेज़ (सम्पूर्ण): 23-24; गुदा कांटा 2; ऐनल सौफट रेज़: 6 - 8. This species is distinguished from all its congeners in the Atlantic by the following set of characters: a terminal and slightly oblique mouth; D1 XI; lack of diverticula on anterior chamber of gas bladder; differs from other species that lack diverticula: from S. punctatissimus which has a deeper body and a subterminal to inferior mouth, from S. menezesi with an elongated body and an inferior mouth, and from S. gomezi which has a more elongated body and a subterminal to inferior mouth (Ref. 125562).
