Diagnosis: tooth patches broad; 8-9 anal-fin rays; 0-4 gill-rakers on upper branch of first arch; 3 unbranched ventral caudal-fin rays; 38-41 vertebrae; caudal fin with prominent pale basal crescent, even in adults; body typically grey; grey flank pigment carried onto the lower lip, mental barbels and, in adults, the underside of the head (Ref. 44050).

體色 在蔭涼處中的頭部與身體雙色的灰色; 背面與側面顯著有班點, 最眼直徑或者比較小的, 藉由越過腹部是分散的相似的斑點; 胸鰭的背面暗色的當成魚時, 腹鰭通常無標記的; 頭部 (從吻尖到胸鰭的水平) 的下面有同樣地被標示的深灰色有顏色 (在蔭涼處中與背部的有顏色相配) ，下唇與觸鬚的明顯散佈; 頭部發展良好的腹面的顏色當幼魚與成魚時與於大約 70-80 mm SL 的開始形成; 在它的末梢部邊緣附近的臀鰭有模糊的暗色條紋當幼魚時與稚魚, 是不是明顯在較大的標本中在哪一個臀鰭是通常沒有顏色而且可能有分散的小斑點或一個灰色有顏色的輕微陰影; 尾鰭當成魚時，概略地如同側面一般的蔭涼處,具有一個灰白的末梢部的邊緣與模糊的灰白基部的新月; 尾鰭當幼魚時而且稚魚有藉由被出發的一條深色的橫帶灰白的末梢部的邊緣與寬的, 灰白的基部新月; 在標本的尾部的鞍狀斑與橫帶圖案發展良好的達到大約 70 mm SL; 尾部的橫帶深色的與大部份在尾梗上; 延伸大約方法中的 3/4 的鞍狀斑墬落側面, 通常不當深色的也不當很清晰如尾鰭橫帶.(參考文獻 44050)
