Espinas dorsales (total): 0; Radios blandos dorsales (total): 15-17; Espinas anales 0; Radios blandos anales: 15 - 16. Can be distinguished from congeners by the pattern in the caudal fin. Males also show an irregular red blotch on the operculum.

Found in small, temporary, weedy pools (Ref. 41296).
