Eastern Atlantic: Gabon to Angola. One specimen reported from off Walvis Bay, Namibia (Ref. 4107).

Épines dorsales (Total): 3; Rayons mous dorsaux (Total): 19; Épines anales 0; Rayons mous anaux: 13 - 15. Brownish but paler below; body with 3-4 brown cross bars, head with 2; head and body sometimes with brown spots (Ref. 4107).
Occurs on the continental shelf (Ref. 3572). Feeds mainly on crustaceans (Ref. 3572). Marketed mainly fresh (Ref. 3572).
