Etymology: Sundasalanx: Composed from Sunda, Asiatic island + latinization of Philippines, salamga, French salangana = the name of a kind of swallow (Ref. 45335); platyrhynchus: Combination of platys, Greek for broad, and rhynchos, Greek for snout.

Found in rivers with moderate to fast flowing water with muddy bottom (Ref. 56749). During the day, they occur usually in water deeper than 1 m, close to the bottom. At night, they form school near the surface along the shores (Ref. 56749).
