Short description Morphology | Morphometrics

Dorsal spines (total): 10; Dorsal soft rays (total): 15-16; Anal spines: 3; Anal soft rays: 12 - 13. This species differs in the following characters: 2 post-maxillary processes; D X, 15-16 (usually 15); A III, 11-13 (usually 12); pectoral-fin rays 22-23; lateral-line scales 70-79 (modally 75); circumpeduncular scales 11-13 + 15-16; fusiform and elongate body, its greatest depth 3.4-3.9 in SL; head length (HL) 3.4-3.6 in SL; snout 3.7-4.2 in HL; eye 3.4-4.2 in HL; pectoral-fin length 1.1-1.4 in HL; in life, color is blue to bluish green grading to white on belly, with prominent pair of broad (each covering a maximum of about 4-5 scale rows) yellow stripes, the lower extending from above eye to upper half of caudal-fin base, and the upper from nape to base of posteriormost dorsal-fin rays (Ref. 77031). Pectoral-fin axil spot black; caudal-fin lobes tips dark (Ref. 90102).

This species forms midwater aggregations that feed on zooplankton, frequently in the company of other caesionids, usually Caesio caerulaurea, C. lunaris, and C. varilineata, from the surface to at least 30 m (Ref. 77031).
