Short description Morphology | Morphometrics

Dorsal soft rays (total): 5-6; Anal soft rays: 4. Tubercles present on ventral surface of disk. Cephalic lateral line scale counts: preopercular 3-4; subopercular 5-6; dorsolateral branch of subopercular 3-5; supraorbital 6-8. Lateral line scale counts on body 9-10; tail 11-14. Disk depressed; oval in outline; relatively long. Rostrum short, slightly overhanging the mouth. Esca broader than aperture of illicial cavity in some specimens. Gill rakers in the form of finger-shaped pedicles with thin plates filling angles between pedicles and gill arch; tiny teeth at distal ends of pedicles. Tubercles with 6-7 facets, usually with 1 slender spine. Bifid, sometimes trifid, spines on lateral margins of disk and rostrum. Fins moderately sized and are weak; fin membranes and rays delicate (Ref. 40825).

Estimates based on models

Preferred temperature (Ref. 123201): 5 - 9.1, mean 6.6 °C (based on 363 cells).
Phylogenetic diversity index (Ref. 82804):  PD50 = 0.5010   [Uniqueness, from 0.5 = low to 2.0 = high].
Bayesian length-weight: a=0.02291 (0.00925 - 0.05675), b=2.94 (2.72 - 3.16), in cm total length, based on LWR estimates for this (Sub)family-body shape (Ref. 93245).
Trophic level (Ref. 69278):  3.2   ±0.5 se; based on size and trophs of closest relatives
Resilience (Ref. 120179):  High, minimum population doubling time less than 15 months (Preliminary K or Fecundity.).
Fishing Vulnerability (Ref. 59153):  Low vulnerability (10 of 100).
