Biology     Glossary (e.g. epibenthic)

Adults inhabit pools with logs and other debris in low-gradient to moderate-gradient, small to large rivers. Also found in lakes and impoundments. Young occur in rocky and sandy runs and riffles (Ref. 5723, 86798). Juveniles feed on aquatic insect immature in riffle areas (Ref. 10294). Older individuals consume crayfish, clams and fishes (Ref. 93252).

Estimates based on models

Phylogenetic diversity index (Ref. 82804):  PD50 = 1.0000   [Uniqueness, from 0.5 = low to 2.0 = high].
Bayesian length-weight: a=0.00550 (0.00412 - 0.00733), b=3.13 (3.04 - 3.22), in cm total length, based on LWR estimates for this species (Ref. 93245).
Trophic level (Ref. 69278):  3.8   ±0.3 se; based on diet studies.
Generation time: 7.8 (6.9 - 9.5) years. Estimated as median ln(3)/K based on 24 growth studies.
Resilience (Ref. 120179):  Low, minimum population doubling time 4.5 - 14 years (K=0.06-0.38; tm=3-6; tmax=34; Fec=6,900).
Fishing Vulnerability (Ref. 59153):  High vulnerability (62 of 100).
Nutrients (Ref. 124155):  Calcium = 32.2 [18.3, 73.4] mg/100g; Iron = 1.17 [0.65, 2.08] mg/100g; Protein = 17.1 [15.0, 18.9] %; Omega3 = 0.467 [0.192, 1.143] g/100g; Selenium = 77.9 [32.5, 172.5] μg/100g; VitaminA = 14.8 [5.0, 45.4] μg/100g; Zinc = 0.595 [0.403, 0.893] mg/100g (wet weight);
