Etymology: Pteropsaron: Greek, pteron = wing, fin + Greek, psaron = grey, with different colours (Ref. 45335);  longipinnis: The name refers to the elongate dorsal and pelvic fins,especially the latter which defines it from the nearest relative P. springeri.
