soft rays: 8 - 9. Dorsal profile of head moderately to gently sloped. Preorbital width about equal to 2/3 of eye diameter. Preopercular notch and knob poorly developed. Scale rows on back rising obliquely above lateral line. Upper back brownish; sides whitish with a series of fine yellow lines on lower half of the body, and similar lines running obliquely above the lateral line (Ref. 469). Body depth 2.9-3.3 in SL (Ref. 90102).
Adults inhabit coral and rocky reefs (Ref. 55) in coastal areas and outer slopes. Forms large and small aggregations (Ref. 90102).
