Short description Morphology | Morphometrics

Dorsal spines (total): 6; Dorsal soft rays (total): 26-30; Anal spines: 2; Anal soft rays: 26 - 28. This species differs from its congeners in having D VI; acute head, without rostral projection or tuberosity in adults; bony plates of caudal peduncle 2; relatively large eye (6.3-7.2% SL); median body depth, 2.8-2.9 in SL; teeth on upper jaw 100-120, on lower jaw 90-110; uniformly brownish body color; relatively small adult size which might not exceed 350 mm SL; and a different genome structure (Ref. 87782).

Biology     Glossary (e.g. epibenthic)

This species feeds on benthic crustaceans and bivalves, indicating that this fish feeds on marine organisms living on the sea floor. Caught by bottom gill-net and hook and line at 70-80 m depth (Ref. 87782).

Estimates based on models

Phylogenetic diversity index (Ref. 82804):  PD50 = 0.5000   [Uniqueness, from 0.5 = low to 2.0 = high].
Bayesian length-weight: a=0.01995 (0.00906 - 0.04395), b=3.00 (2.82 - 3.18), in cm total length, based on LWR estimates for this Genus-body shape (Ref. 93245).
Trophic level (Ref. 69278):  2.4   ±0.1 se; based on size and trophs of closest relatives
Resilience (Ref. 120179):  Medium, minimum population doubling time 1.4 - 4.4 years (Preliminary K or Fecundity.).
Fishing Vulnerability (Ref. 59153):  Low to moderate vulnerability (32 of 100).
