This species is distinguished by the following characters: with a dark blotch on exposed cleithrum; no dark blotch dorsolaterally on the caudal peduncle; no short black bars along the middle of the side, nor a dark blotch on the gill cover; no black blotch anteriorly on dorsal fin; no intense black narrow vertical bars on the sides in males; vertebrae 28-29; lateral scale row 27-29; D XVI-XVIII.8½-10; narrow interorbital space 4.6-6.3% SL; scales between the anal fin and upper lateral line 6; circumpeduncular scale rows 15-17 (Ref. 120428).
