Diagnosis |
This specis is distinguished from all it congeners in the Atlantic by the following set of characters: a strong oblique mouth; 6-9 short spines on the preopercular margin; 4 pores on the underside of the lower jaw, except the Venezuelan S. chaoi, which is similar in external appearance, but has 42-48 total gill rakers on the first arch (vs. 28-37 in S. collettei) (Ref. 125562). |
