This species is distinguished from all its congeners by having very short dorsal, pectoral and pelvic fins: dorsal-fin spine length approximately equal to the distance from the snout tip to the mid-length of interorbital distance, pectoral-fin spine not reaching to pelvic-fin insertion; and pelvic-fin spine not or just reaching to anal-fin origin (vs. dorsal-fin spine length varying from equal to head length in most species to similar to predorsal length, pectoral-fin spine surpassing insertion of pelvic spine, and pelvic-fin spine surpassing origin of anal fin) (Ref. 124776). Description: D II,7, with spinelet; A I,4; pectoral I,6; pelvic I,5. |
