This species is distinguished by the following characters: cephalic sensory-pore system lacking IT and SOT pores; 8/8 dorsal/anal fin-ray formula; pectoral-fin rays15, some branched; non-fimbriated genital papilla; non-filamentous dorsal fin in both male and female; posterior on body between anal-fin origin and caudal-fin base are 3 moderately broad internal bars; a broad orange band from top of eye and forward to ventral eye area, extending to the chin as oblique blackish bar (Ref. 94740).
