Description: large and heavily-built species; dorsal and ventral body profiles convex; head massive; dorsal head profile above eye convex, concave between eyes; premaxillary pedicel prominent; mouth moderately large; gape inclined at about 20° to horizontal; maxilla extending to vertical at anterior margin of eye; outer and inner oral teeth unicuspid; 3 series of scales on cheek; upper margin of eye not touching dorsal head profile; lower pharyngeal normal, with small slender teeth (Ref. 55898).

Coloration: Preserved: Females and immature males: body silvery yellow; 6-7 vertical bars, only faintly visible directly below dorsal fin; all fins pale; anal fin with greyish leading edge (Ref. 55898).
