Diagnosis

Diagnosis: distance from snout to dorsal-fin base 55-65% of SL; body depth 4.9x and head length 4.7x SL; eye diameter 3.1x head length; scale formula 9.5/45-50/4.5; 14 scales around caudal peduncle; 8-9 dorsal-fin branched rays; 14-16 anal-fin branched rays; 7-12 dark vertical bars on sides (Ref. 2940, 81282).

Description: body elongate, its dorsal profile nearly straight; eye large and protruding; nostrils transversely aligned; dorsal fin beginning just behind midpoint of body; tips of pelvics reaching anal-fin origin; caudal fin deeply forked; gill rakers short; D:III,8-9; A:III,14-16; P:I,14-15; V:I,8 (Ref. 2940, 81282).

Coloration: dark head, snout and back; large individuals with 7-12 well visible and separate vertical bars, which in smaller specimen are broader and spot-like, especially the 8-9 posterior ones, which are connected by a median band on caudal peduncle (Ref. 2940, 81282).
