Diagnosis

Opercle with an ocellated spot. Gill membranes fused with the isthmus. Usually 6 pores in preopercular canal; no posterior otic sensory canal pore; posterior interorbital pore usually absent. A pale bar below eye; a pale stripe from posterodorsal region of eye to anterior of lateral line; pale median stripe from tip of snout to origin of dorsal fin. Spots arranged in 3-5 irregular rows.
