Diagnosis

Diagnosis: upper-jaw teeth in 2 or 3 rows; premaxillary teeth triserial (Ref. 271, 81279). 5.5 scales in transverse row between lateral line and dorsal fin origin; 10 scales around caudal peduncle (Ref. 74421, 80290, 81279); 33-36 (Ref. 80290), 33-34 (Ref. 81279) or 35-39 (Ref. 74421) lateral line scales. Eye diameter/head length 30-35% (Ref. 80290) or 37.6-42.8 (Ref. 74421). 17-19 anal fin branched rays (Ref. 74421, 80290).

Description: 14-16 (Ref. 271) or 13-15 (Ref. 74421) gill rakers on the first ceratobranchial; 11-14 (Ref. 271) or 12-14 (Ref. 74421) on the epibranchial. Total number of gill rakers on first gill arch 15-20 (Ref. 80290, 81279) or 26-30 (Ref. 74421). Dorsal fin with 2 unbranched and 8 (Ref. 74421) or 7-9 (Ref. 271) branched rays. Anal fin with 2-3 (Ref. 271) or 3 (Ref. 74421) unbranched rays. Pectoral fins with 12-13 soft rays; pelvic fin with 8-9 soft rays; 34-37 vertebrae; 5 supraneurals between the rear of the neurocranium and the anteriormost proximal radial pterygiophore (Ref. 271).

Coloration: overall live coloration is pale with no strong markings or bright colors; upper half of body is pale tan, the lower half white; very pale pink areas in the central portions of the dorsal fin, the distal part of the anal fin and the upper lobe of the caudal fin; a very small pink dot on the anterior base of the adipose fin (Ref. 271). A silvery lateral stripe (black in preserved animals) extends from gill cover to base of caudal fin (Ref. 80290, 81279).
