Diagnosis

Diagnosis: body relatively elongate; upper jaw highly mobile vertically with respect to the cranium; maxilla reduced and edentulous; single series of teeth in upper jaw (Ref. 81638).

Description: body depth 0.17-0.20 SL, slightly laterally compressed; mouth subterminal; premaxilla lacking teeth in region proximate to premaxillary symphysis with median gap filled by fleshy pad; premaxilla and dentary with long series of mobile bicuspid teeth (ca. 30-35 on each side of upper and lower jaws); basal portion caudal fin covered with scales; body scales ctenoid and relatively small; 7-8 scales between anal fin origin and lateral line; D: II-III,10-11; A: II-III,9-11 (Ref. 81638).

Coloration: preserved specimens yellowish brown; dorsal portions of head dark; scales of dorsal and dorsolateral portions of body darkly marginated; distal portions of anterior rays of dorsal fin variously dusky to dark; distinct, vertically aligned patches of dark pigmentation extend across each lobe of caudal fin; caudal rays immediately ventral of medial rays sometimes with longitudinally patch of dark pigmentation; irregular dark pigmentation on middle of posterior portion of caudal peduncle and mid-basal portion caudal rays; basal portions of rays of lower caudal lobe with diffuse dark pigmentation in some specimens (Ref. 81638).
