| Σχόλια | Introduced in the 1950s to the 1960s. Introduced in Lake Victoria to supplement stocks of native tilapiines which declined due to overfishing (Ref. 7270). Has spread in Lake Victoria where it has hybridized with endemic O. esculentus and O. variabilis which led to their disappearance. However, commercial catches increased from 64,000 t in 1982 to 89,000 t in 1985 following establishment of the introduced O. niloticus. Also Ref. 13046. Ref: Ogutu-Ohwayo, R. and R.E.
