| Already introduced to Lake Victoria to supplement stocks of native tilapiines which declined due to overfishing (Ref. 7270) in 1951 (Ref. 13046, 34290), and repeatedly up to 1960 at various sites around the lake (Ref. 13046). Introduced to Lake Naivasha in 1956 (Ref. 13053, 56096), apparently accidentally and probably as a result of contamination of a batch of T. zilii (Ref. 364). It has established in Lake Naivasha (Ref. 1739, 56096) and hybridized with O. spilurus niger (Ref. 2, 364, 1739, 1978, 56096), which has now disappeared (Ref. 2, 56096). Present in Kenyan waters of Lake Victoria (Ref. 1739). Has competed with the indigenous O. variabilis (Ref. 13364). Also Ref. 1978.
