Comments: Between 1992 and 2006, this species has spread rapidly north- and southward along the eastern seaboard of the USA. Source of the fish may have been the lionfish released from an aquarium during Hurricane Andrew (Ref. 79593). Recorded from North Carolina (Ref. 117434). In a 17 year survey study in Southeast USA, the significant decrese in abundance (46%) of the Haemulon aurolineatum has been attributed to the arrival/presence of the species (Ref. 117434).     Ref:  Côté, I.M. and N.S.
