Fish affected: Cyprinidae; Tinca tinca   
Symptoms: T. tinca shows emaciation, slack, sunken eyes, pale skin and gills, anaemia, fish lying bended on their sides, spiralic movements, drilling head into ground.  
Treatments: Methylene blue 60 mg/kg/d for 4 weeks.  
Prophylaxis: Remove infected fish and leeches.   
Remarks: Disease is transmitted by blood-sucking invertebrates (leeches). Cryptobia species are well-known ectocommensals on freshwater fishes. They occasionally cause problems in aquaculture (Möller and Anders 1986).
