Symptoms: | T. tinca shows emaciation, slack, sunken eyes, pale skin and gills, anaemia, fish lying bended on their sides, spiralic movements, drilling head into ground. | |
Treatments: | Methylene blue 60 mg/kg/d for 4 weeks. | |
Prophylaxis: | Remove infected fish and leeches. | |
Remarks: | Disease is transmitted by blood-sucking invertebrates (leeches). Cryptobia species are well-known ectocommensals on freshwater fishes. They occasionally cause problems in aquaculture (Möller and Anders 1986). | |
