Treatments: Use of Di-n-butyl tin oxide, 250 mg per kg of fish, fed for 3 days; Dibutyl tin dilurate (Tinostat) which is a poultry product that is more effective than the previous formulation (Mitchell and Hoffman, 1980); Yomesan (niclosamide, Lintex), 50 mg per kg of fish or an optional feeding treatment of 500 g per 500 kg dry pellets fed at 1.5% of body weight, 2-3 times at weekly interval; or 28 g per 40 kg, fed for 3 days; or incorporation of either the recommended doses into pellets, distributed over 7 feeding days at 5% body mass of fish (Korting, 1974; Mitchell and Hoffman, 1980; Brandt et al., 1981) however Yomesan should be used in aquarium or tanks with running water because it is toxic to fish; Droncit (Praziquantel of Beyer), 5 mg per kg of fish, either by direct application of mixed into the pellets. Note: Drugs should be mixed in oil (corn, soy, fish) and sprayed on to the pellets or a mixing of 1 liter per 70 kg of dry weight. Also the control of copepods would result in higher effectivity of the treatment (Ref. 045600).
Prophylaxis:
Remarks: Infection commonly occurs in the intestine but there are reports that it also infects the gall bladder of the host fish (Ref. 045600).
