Symptoms: | The infected fish has a swollen belly. | |
Treatments: | Examine first the fish for any parasite (Nematodes, Spironucleus/Hexamita) and treat if necessary. If no parasite is found, administer Magnesium Salt (12-15g/100L) or slowly increase the water temperature (30°C). If the disease is cause by a tumor, surgery is the only solution but with a 10% chance of survival. | |

Remarks: | The swollen belly is caused by accumulation of faeces due to blockage. Can be a result of poor diet, intestinal infection or a tumor. The condition can also occur in Malawi Bloat. | |
