Found in the Iberian Peninsula (Ref. 119049). Generally absent where most common introduced species were present in the Guadiana river basin (Ref. 52517). Occurs mainly in the upper and middle reaches of some tributaries of Guadiana River; including rivers of Xévora, Caia, Álamo, Degebe, Ardila, Chança, Carreiras, Vascão, Foupana, and Odeleite. Occurrence in the Bembezar river is still to be confirmed (Ref. 43324). Also Ref. 6376, 32724.

Status of threat: Critically endangered (Ref. 119049).
