Found in the Yangtze River (=ChangJiang River) (Ref. 12218); report not documented in Ref. 45259, Xijiang drainage and Zhujiang (=Peal River) river mouth (Ref. 52359). Becoming extinct in Huang He (=Yellow River), Minjiang and Qiangtang rivers and rare in Zhujiang River (Ref. 45563); During 1960 to 1970, annual production of this species in the upper reaches of Changjiang (=Yangtze) River totalled 20,000 -25,000 kilograms (Ref. 45563). Introduced from its native range to other regions in the country (for conservation). Extensively stocked in reservoirs (Ref. 55380). Status of threat: Vulnerable (Ref. 45563).

Known from Changjiang River (= Yangtze River), Shanghai City, Guangdong Province, and Ningpo of Zhejiang Province
