Endemic to southern Australia (Ref. 6871). Common in the Great Australian Bight where it occurs in 130-220 m (Ref. 6871). In the Bass Strait, it is found in seagrass beds near the coast (Ref. 6871). Most specimens from off western Tasmania were taken in less than 100 m (Ref. 6871). Records from New South Wales need verification (Ref. 6871). Also Ref. 7300.
