Found in the vast area of the floodplains in the upper part of the middle section of the São Francisco River, about 10 km wide on each side of the main river channel, along a straight line parallel to the river channel of about 140 km between the areas near the villages of Manga and São Francisco, Minas Gerais state. The combination of the extent and occurrence is estimated to be below 5000 square kilometer. The continuing decline of the area of occupancy and number of populations may suggest that this species is endangered. (Ref. 89836).
