Occurs only in the upper Tennessee River drainage of Tennessee, Virginia and North Carolina. Recorded from the French Broad system of Tennessee and North Carolina, the Emory River system in Tennessee, and the Holston and Clinch River systems in Tennessee and Virginia. Considered extirpated in North Carolina, rare in Virginia and threatened in Tennessee (Ref. 75766).
