Type locality of the holotype of Salmo odoe: 'Küste von Guinea' (Ref. 3087); however, it seems likely that the actual type locality of Hepsetus odoe might be one of these two localities: 'Ponny River (05°41'N 00°04'E) near Prampram (Ghana)' or 'Lower Volta River (Ghana)' (Ref. 94534). Known from Tano River (Ref. 272, 2914), Ankobra River (Ref. 88135), Pra River (Ref. 272, 2914, 81278, 88135), Densu River (Ref. 81278) and Volta River basin (Ref. 2914, 81278, 88135). Also Ref. 30488. Importance to fisheries: highly commercial (Dankwa, pers. comm. 06/2005).
