Type locality of Capoeta pestai Eğirdir Lake (Ref. 33021). Recorded from Çayköy Stream, Lake Eğirdir drainage, Isparta Province (Ref. 79811); Melendiz Creek, Belisırma, Aksaray (Ref. 93777). Central Anatolia (Ref. 106151).

Status of threat: Critically endangered (Ref. 58342).

Reported under the name Schizothorax prophylax, it is known from the Egridir Lake to have been undergoing severe decline due to habitat loss, eutrophication, pollution, construction of weirs/dams, water abstraction, and aquaculture/introduction of alien species (Ref. 58342).
