Found in the Iberian Peninsula (Ref. 119049). Occurs in Rio Jucar near Cuenca; Laguna of Una; river Turia. Threatened due to habitat destruction, pollution, and introductions of exotic predators (Ref. 79582). Exrtirpated in most of the Jucar drainage by the invasion of its strong competitor Pseudochondrostoma polylepis, but survives only in one headwater where a dam prevents peneration of Pseudochondrostoma polylepis (Ref. 59043). Fishery 1989: species subject to commercial fishing (Ref. 79582). Also Ref. 13696, 27763.

Status of threat: Critically endangered (Ref. 59043, 119049).
