Occurs in the Mekong basin. From Loei-Chiang Rai Province, upstream migration occurs in February-May and July-August, but the main period of upstream migration is from March-April; downstream migration takes place in September-November. From Champassack in southern Laos to Nakhon Phanom Province in Thailand, upstream migrations occur in May-June and dowstream migrations in November-December (Ref. 37770).
