Type locality, Hiroshima, Shiga Fisheries Sta., ZUMT 30386 (holotype Chaenogobius cylindricus, 4.4 cm SL) (Ref. 81467). .Occurs in the Kochi Prefecture, Tsushima, the Gotô Islands, and Kyushu (Ref. 559). Also Ref. 11344.

Status of threat: Endangered (Ref. 94887).
