Type locality of the holotype of Coregonus niloticus: 'Thèbes' (Ref. 89799). Reported to be extinct in Egypt (Ref. 51850), but it used to be caught in the Nile River (Ref. 1878, 95523, 96084). The AMNH collection contains 4 specimens taken from the Nile River in 1977, which are the most recent records (Boden, pers. comm.).
