Occurs in the lower Xe Bangfai, a tributary of the Mekong basin (Ref. 9497, 27732). Largest of 8 species of Botia occurring in Laos. Migrates upstream in large numbers with Cirrhinus spp. during Chinese New Year in January.-February (Ref. 9497). Also reported to migrate upstream during the dry season in December/February in Southern Laos (Ref. 37769). Ban Hang Khone fishers never see it with eggs (Ref. 9497). Juveniles around 2 cm appear from March to May at Xayaboury (Ref. 37770). One of the most important species in the specilized "tone" trap fishery at Ban Hang Khone, immediately downstream the Khone Falls between January to March (Ref. 37770).
