Found in the Iberian Peninsula (Ref. 119049). Known from Guadalmina, Guadaiza and Guadiaro drainages near Malaga (Ref. 59043). Found in Genal River, a tributary of the neighboring Guadiaro River. A rare species with a restricted distribution range. Its population is currently declining due the reduction of its habitats brought about by the proliferation of golf fields. This should be considered critically endangered according to the IUCN Ref List Categories (CR B1 + 2ce) (Ref. 72459). Threatened due to water abstraction for golf courses (Ref. 59043).
