Presently found only in three localities in the Mackenzie basin of the upper Waitaki River system of the eastern/central South Island. Prospective activities such as water abstraction and draglining in the type locality of this species may pose adverse effect to its population. Thus, a careful conservation management of this species as well as a search for additional population and a better understanding of its geographical range and population size are deemed necessary (Ref. 75601).
