Found only in San Miguel Spring in southeast region of Maravatio town in the upper Lerma River drainage in Michoacan. Only small population was recorded in 2000 and 2002. The species was not anymore found from 2004 to 2007. The spring is under intense human pressure as a recreation and washing place. Absence of this species from the spring could be possibly due to the recent introductions of alien species Poecilia reticulata, Heterandria bimaculata and Oreochromis sp. (Ref. 84762). The species should be considered in danger of extinction based on the Risk Evaluation Method done by Sanchez et al. 2007 (Ref. 84762).

Status of threat: critically endangered.
