Ranges from the Bering Sea to southeastern Alaska (Ref. 2850). Found abundant in the central and eastern Aleutian Islands, common in the northern Gulf of Alaska. A single dried specimen was found washed up on a beach near Kivalina, in the Chukchi Sea and the eastern- and southern-most specimen examined (UMMZ 129014) was taken in Frederick Sound in southeast Alaska (Ref. 89865).
