Known from the European Black Sea watersheds, Anatolian Black Sea watersheds, Aegean Sea watersheds and Western Anatolian lake watersheds. Threatened due to fishing, eutrophication/pollution and construction of weirs/dams in rivers. Listed in Appendix III of the Bern Convention (protected fauna) (Ref. 58342). Also Ref. 556, 106151.
